HOW TO APPLY
Application Process
The application process for Westfield Secondary School starts with the student submitting their application form to the school, issuing an offer letter and letter of acceptance to the student, paying fee by the student, and applying for a student study permit. The school also offers an airport pickup for the student, if he/she wants to opt for it.
For all the schools affiliated with the Limestone District School Board Schools, the application process is similar: the student starts by filling out the application form, followed by an interview through an online platform, then they receive their official letter of acceptance. The school board assigns a school based on the student’s homestay address in the city.
Fee Structure
The annual fees for the year 2020-2021 for grades 9-12 at the Westfield Secondary School come up to $14,500. You can view the complete fee schedule here.
Custodianship
What is Custodianship and why do international students need it?
Each Canadian province and territory decides the age when a person becomes an adult. This is known as the age of majority. A person under the age of majority is a “minor child”. In the province of Ontario, the age of majority is 18 years old. If your child is under this age he /she would be considered as a ‘minor’. Minors who wish to come to Canada to study will need to have a custodian, someone who watches over them.
The parents or legal guardians must prove the minor child will have the care and support they need during their stay in Canada. Minor children under the age of 17 must either:
- Come with their parent or legal guardian or
- Have a custodian in Canada
A custodian is a responsible adult who is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, who will take care of and support the minor child. A custodian is optional for minors of 17 years of age and older, but an officer can request one on a case-by-case basis.
How to appoint a custodian
To appoint a custodian, parents should fill The Custodianship Declaration Form (PDF, 1.02 MB) along with the minor child’s study permit application.
The two pages of the form look similar, but:
- The first page needs to be signed by the custodian and notarized (certified by a lawyer or notary) in Canada.
- The second page needs to be signed by the parents or legal guardians of the minor child and notarized in their home country.
Study Permit and Visa Support
Minor children who want to study for six months or more must apply for a study permit before they enter Canada.
Study and Stay in Canada will provide you with individual guidance for applying for a study permit by preparing, reviewing, and submitting all your application documents to the Immigration and Citizenship Department of Canada. If parents want to accompany their kids on their first trip to Canada, or wish to visit their kids at their graduation ceremony, we can arrange for their temporary-stay visa.
Homestay Facilities
To ensure the overall comfort of the students, schools provide excellent homestay services within their campuses.
The Limestone District School Board has an amiable homestay program for their students.
The Canada Homestay Network (CHN) manages Homestay for St. Lawrence College. Check out CHN to learn about their host family selection process, the application process, and how being part of the Homestay program may benefit you!
